Best Farmers Markets Northern Virginia – Virginia made the top 10 list of “winter season” local farmers markets!
Yes, indeed. We love the idea of purchasing locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as supporting local small businesses.
Markets abound all year around including the newest, close-in “year ’round” market in Lorton, Virginia – just across the river in Fairfax County.
The main Prince William County farmers markets are located in Dale City and Manassas with a wonderful smaller market in Occoquan.
The Dale City Farmers Market, located in the commuter lot behind Center Plaza (off Minnieville and Dale Boulevard).
It is open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the spring, summer, fall and winter to November. We’ve been shopping here for years because of the fresh produce and fresh fruit like apples for snacks and baking, their loaf cakes, jams, honey, and fresh cut flowers.
Consider subscribing to the Northern Virginia Magazine if you are planning a move this area.
The magazine is full of wonderful information ( such as a guide to the farmer’s markets in all surrounding counties) of NOVA but also provides new residents with pertinent and useful information about this suburban region of the Nation’s Capital.
The Manassas Farmers Market is located at 9201 Center Street, in Manassas, Virginia. Their telephone number is (703)361-6599.
The market is held on Thursdays at the Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas from 7 AM until 1 PM and also on Saturdays in the visitor’s Parking Lot on West Street, from 7 AM until 2:30 PM.
Both days are seasonal running from April until November.
Flavors of Virginia What Can I Bring Through the Seasons?
This past summer, the grand-kids and I made it a weekly routine of going early on Thursday mornings for the freshest white and yellow peaches, plums, fresh pastries and baked goods from La Parisienne®, Angus beef from Martin’s® and just enough green tomatoes to make our Beef Barbecue.
Do you make your own condiments and relishes? I made a recipe for Ritter’s Green Tomato Relish using the green tomatoes I found at the Manassas Farmers Market.
