As a special treat for the family chocoholics, I prepare this easy chocolate mousse pie in an oreo crumb crust.
Frozen Chocolate Mousse Pie Recipe:
Recipe Copyright © General Foods Corporation (found in a magazine from the late 70s)
Ingredients:
- 1 package (4oz.) Baker’s® Germans® Sweet Chocolate
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar (I only added 1 tablespoon)
- 1 (3 oz.) pacakge of cream cheese, softened (oops! I used the entire 8oz pack!)
- 1 (8 oz.) container of thawed Cool Whip®
- 1 (8 inch) gramham cracker crumb or Oreo crumb crust
Directions:
- Melt the chocolate in 2 tablespoons of the milk over low heat, stirring constantly until the chocolate is melted.
- Beat the sugar into the cream cheese, then add the rest of the milk and the melted chocolate. Beat until smooth.
- Fold the chocolate mixture into the Cool Whip®, blending until smooth.
- Spoon into the crumb crust.
- Freeze until firm or a minimum of 4 hours.
- Store leftover pie in freezer.
Note: While I was mixing the chocolate mixture into the cream cheese and folding in the whipped topping, I noticed something was just “not right”.
Now I know that it was the luscious color of chocolate mousse and the beautiful orange color of the Ambrosia Pie.
Moral of the story is not to rush when preparing a recipe you think you know by heart. I used an 8 oz. pack of cream cheese instead of the 3 oz. pack in both pies!
I will quickly add that two taste testers nonetheless gave the frozen chocolate mousse pie a stamp of approval.
